News & Events at the Florida Fishing Academy

We know the value of environmental conservation and working with youth, and we’ve been recognized as leaders in those efforts.

In 2023, we were featured on CBS News. In 2014, our executive director, Capt. Rich Brochu, won the Loggerhead Blue Friend of the Year award for his contributions to marine conservation. In 2013 and 2014, we received certification for Sound Nonprofit Management by Nonprofits First. In 2012, we were featured on NBC Nightly News. And in 2010, we were nominated for the Palm Beach County Clerk & Comptroller’s Best Practices Award for implementing an “innovative model of excellence.”

Florida Fishing Academy in Coastlines

This story in Coastlines featured a student, Donnie, who learned to love fishing through FFA. So much so that he decided he wanted to continue schooling with the intention of studying marine biology and getting a boat captains license.

Riviera Beach Marina Day

This was a special day for the Florida Fishing Academy. Not only did we introduce our program to local students and the community, but we launched our partnership with the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and received a check for $30,000! This program has gone on to reach many kids in the community with great success.

Little River Band Benefit Concert

April 8, 2014

It’s not every day that we get to meet legendary bands while raising funds for our local nonprofit. This was that day as we were lucky enough to get support from the Little River Band, which played a benefit concert in Delray Beach. It turns out the lead singer, Wayne Nelson, is a Delray Beach resident and believes in our program to help at-risk youth. They graciously decided to lend their support, so everyone benefited from hearing great music for a worthy cause.
